Tricycle Nuclear Film Festival
The film festival runs from Thursday 22nd March until Sunday 25th and will address the wider issues involved in the nuclear debate through their depiction on film.

The programme includes screenings of cult classics such as Dr. Strangelove and On The Beach as well as The War Game, a docu-drama that won the Oscar for Best Documentary despite being a fictional portrayal of nuclear war and its aftermath.

Other highlights include The Atomic Cafe, a disturbing collection of 1940s and 1950s United States government issued propaganda films which the New York Times claims will have you howling with laughter, horror and disbelief, and Threads, a documentary style account of a nuclear holocaust and its effects on the city of Sheffield.

Review: Tyrannosaur

“God ain’t my fucking daddy. My daddy was a fucking cunt”

I have to admit it; I avoided seeing this at the cinema. Not because I didn’t think it would be good, quite the opposite. Paddy Considine is one of the best actors working today and I knew any film with his name attached as Director would be affecting and astoundingly brilliant. I wasn’t wrong. Tyrannosaur is about abuse and redemption and it is brutally but thoughtfully depicted.  I sat at home and watched it on Blu-ray and allowed myself to be enthralled by the depth of the characters and moved by the dramatic and realistic scenes.

Stills: Midnight in Paris

Released on DVD in the UK on 6th February.

One of the best films of 2011 in one of our writers opinions.
