Review: Battleship

Aliens come to Earth with the plan to kill us, or enslave us, or something. It doesn’t really matter what they want, because what they find when they get here is 45,000 tonnes of Battleship, questionable physics, Taylor Kitsch, Rihanna, and enough soppy patriotism that means frankly, we should just feel sorry for them. They never stood a chance.

Review: The Hunger Games

The much anticipated adaptation of Suzanne Collins book of the same title which I haven’t read so went in with no expectations at all. A dystopian North America is now split into twelve districts and ruled by a lavish metropolis called The Capitol. Every year they pick two children aged between 12- 18 to battle to the death as part of a reality TV show. The similarities to Battle Royale and The Running Man cannot be ignored and it doesn’t live up to the grit of either. Saying that, I applaud a film (and book) aimed at the youth market that raises moral issues in such an accessible way.

DVD Review: Love on a Pillow - 50th Anniversary

“I think I love you. It’s awful.”

Beautiful composition, sexual awakening, stirring of the soul and free flowing jazz make up this absurd tale of eros. Director, Roger Vadim, takes a complex look at love, societal expectations and self-destructive tendencies.
