The much anticipated adaptation of Suzanne Collins book of the same title which I haven’t read so went in with no expectations at all. A dystopian North America is now split into twelve districts and ruled by a lavish metropolis called The Capitol. Every year they pick two children aged between 12- 18 to battle to the death as part of a reality TV show. The similarities to Battle Royale and The Running Man cannot be ignored and it doesn’t live up to the grit of either. Saying that, I applaud a film (and book) aimed at the youth market that raises moral issues in such an accessible way.

Margin Call boasts an extremely fine cast including Kevin Spacey, Stanley Tucci, Jeremy Irons, Demi Moore, Paul Bettany, Zachary Quinto and The Mentalist. This is J. C. Chandor’s directorial debut feature, which he has also written, and the fact that he has attracted such superb actors speaks for itself.

A thriller that revolves around the key people at an investment bank over a 24 hour period during the early stages of the financial crisis.
An excellent directorial debut from J.C. Chandor.
